Nine Month Appointment

Today we had Landon's 9 month appointment, a few days early. It is so hrd to believe my baby boy is going to be 9 months old in just 5 days. Where has the time gone? He has now officially been in the world longer than he was in my belly. Unbelievable. 

He is still a little peanut:

16 pounds- 5-10th percentile

27 inches- 10-25th percentile

He is staying on his growth track, which is good. He is actually doing most of the 12 month developmental milestones (mostly the cruising on furniture, I think) He loves his foods and is really getting into more finger foods. The boy loves chicken, go figure! He still doesn't have any teeth but his doctor said they are hanging out, ready to pop through one of these days. We'll see, I'm not holding my breath! 

We did have our self-diagnosis confirmed- Landon has some eczema. It is only in his diaper area, which is kind of strange but I think it is a result of apples. He got the first spot, on the front, when he tried apples the first time and then he got the spots on his bottom. He has about a half a dozen, nickel-sized spots on his tush that are pinkish-red and raised and really dry feeling. So we got a prescription for some steroid cream and have to apply Vaseline to his whole diaper area with every diaper change, to try to get it under control. Poor baby. The rest of his skin is perfect and smooth and beautiful, so we are lucky it is confined to the diaper area- no one has to see it but us!

And Savannah. Poor little Savannah. When we were in North Carolina in August Savannah was stung by either a wasp or a yellow jacket- her finger and hand swelled up and then her nose and face started to swell. We got some Benedryl in her right away and the swelling went away but it made me really nervous. So we talked to Dr Thole about it today and she went ahead and wrote me a prescription for some epinephrine pens to keep on us at all times- just in case. She said always treat with Benedryl first but in case that doesn't work, we have the epi on us. So kind of scary, but I am glad to know we will always have it with us, for sure. 

Falling Behind

It has been a week without computers in our household. Last Wednesday evening I was checking my email and all of a sudden the internet quit working. It will drop out from time to time, so I went upstairs to Landon's room (the hub of everything in our house is in his closet) and reset the server. I came back down and nothing. But I had full wireless signal, so I knew something was going on. My computer had the same signal, and no internet, but our Apple Airport was still working, even without the internet signal. When Brad got home he called Verizon and they ended up deducing that our router had died. Verizon overnighted one to us, and it got here Friday afternoon- but we left right when Brad got home Friday to go to my parent's house so Brad installed it Sunday night when we got home. 

Well, Thursday night we were up in the loft watching football and Grey's Anatomy and I brought a DVD out for Savannah to watch on the laptop. Only about 15 minutes into the movie, the battery died. We've been having issues with the power cord not making a good connection to the port, so we've had to wiggle it around and around to get it to charge. Well, that night it wouldn't charge at ALL. We had just replaced the power cord a few months ago, which was frustrating to have it happen again. So Brad took the laptop to the Apple store on Tuesday and our battery was only functioning at 23%, so he bought a new battery. Brought the computer home and the power cord STILL wouldn't connect. So yesterday he took the laptop back to the Apple store and come to find out, the power cord we just bought was, in fact, a bad cord. So he had to go to Best Buy to get a print out of his receipt from June, back to the Apple store to prove he had just bought it, and they switched out the cord. And the new cord wouldn't connect either. So while we had a bad cord, we also have a bad port in the computer that doesn't charge the battery when it is plugged in. 

They ordered the part, but at least the computer will work when plugged in- which is is right now. I have been technologically MIA for a week now. My Mac Mini is hooked up in our bedroom through the TV, and it is hard to do to much navigating of the internet in there so I have logged in to check emails and that's about it for the last few days. 

But I am back now!!

Easy Skillet Cordon Bleu

I got this recipe from a Southern Living magazine and tried it out last week. It was fantastic!! Brad is a big an of cordon bleu's, but they take so long and this recipe was so simple! I definitely recommend it! I served it with sliced potatoes and onions, and green beans. Yum!

Ingredients:

1/2 c. Italian-style bread crumbs

1 teaspoon pepper

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 pound chicken tenders

1 Tablespoon butter

1 Tablespoon olive oil

8 slices Canadian bacon (I just used deli ham)

4 slices Swiss cheese halved (I used mozzarella)

Directions:

1. Combine bread crumbs, pepper and salt in a large Ziplock bag. Rinse tenders and add to Ziplock bag. Seal bag and shake to coat. 

2. Melt butter with oil in an oven-safe skillet over medium heat. Cook chicken 3 to 4 minutes on each side, or until done. Arrange Canadian bacon (ham) over chicken in skillet, and top each with cheese slices. Broil 5 1/2 inches from heat, 2 minutes or until cheese is melted.

The N Word

We've been hearing it a LOT in our house the past few days. Brad is even thinking of legally changing Landon's name to 'No-No'- of course we might not have to because chances are he will soon come to respond to it just as much, if not more than, his real name. 

Another option is No-Landon, in honor of the University of Georgia running back Knowshon Moreno. 

Keeping up with Landon Dale

I've been really bad about keeping up with the blog the past few weeks. Now that Landon is mobile my days are a lot busier- it must be a boy thing, because that little guy is fast and wants to explore everything. Right now he is tearing down the towers that Savannah is building- I have a feeling that the novelty of a baby brother is going to wear off pretty soon. There are a lot of benefits of Landon's new found mobility, though- he and Savannah are able to play together a lot more. Brad and I can sit in the loft and the two of them will be playing together in one of their bedrooms. We'll hear laughter coming every once in a while and it makes me realize that I want a big family. I want our whole house to be filled with the sounds of our children playing together. 

Savannah loves 'getting' us now. It started one night when I was playing with her on our bed, and told her The Claw was going to get her (think Liar, Liar) and she thought it was hilarious. It has since evolved into the Heinie Grabber (aptly named), the Sugar Fairy (who gives kisses all over in quick succession) and most recently, the Landon Monster. The Landon Monster is, of course, Landon crawling after us. He of course has no idea of his part in this game, but he'll be crawling and Savannah will yell out, 'The Landon Monster is coming to get me!" and the only way to stop him is to tickle him. This gets lots of laughs out of both of them, and us too of course. 

Landon is now quite adept at pulling up on the furniture and is starting to cruise along it, too. He's slow going right now but I can only imagine it will be a matter of days, not weeks, before he gets faster. Two weeks ago I wasn't feeling well so I tried to take a bubble bath in the middle of the afternoon- well Landon crawled right up to the tub, pulled up and stuck his hand in the water, trying to make a snack of my bubbles. So much for a relaxing break in the middle of the day! Not to self- bubble baths are much better served when enjoyed in the evenings when Daddy can corral the kids!

Both kids are at a great age right now, though, and it is so much fun watching them together. My days may be busier but they are full of so much laughter and fun!
