Lazy, Rainy days

With the thunder rumbling, lightning popping and raindrops beating against the windows, I find myself snuggled up on the couch with Savannah. She has her head resting against my side, catching up on her favorite show- My Friends Tigger and Pooh. We are watching the episode where Piglet gets scared of the thunder and lightning, and his friends show him that it's nothing to be scared of. Hopefully this lesson will somehow penetrate into Savannah's head. I am not exactly sure where her fear of thunderstorms came from, but it was very sudden and unmistakable. She hears that rumble and says, "Oooh," and runs away, usually to hide behind my legs- this is the exact same thing she does when the dogs bark or we scold the dogs for rough housing. Must just be a fear of loud noises.

We've been due for a good rain, so I am loving this storm. We always manage to forget that Thursday is our water day, so a lot of times our poor yard goes without water. We've not yet figured out the automatic sprinklers- for some reason every time we set the timer the sprinklers go off in the middle of the night- and the middle of the afternoon. So for right now we are thankful for rainstorms, which are keeping our lawn alive.

Unfortunately, since our neighborhood is still mostly under construction, the builders have some nice sandbags and tubes blocking the sewers. I understand that it makes perfect sense to prevent construction debris from going into the sewers; however it also prevents water from going down the sewers, too. This, in turn, causes the roads and, inevitably, our yard to flood. A lot. Which kills my flowers so that I have just given up on colorful foliage around my trees. Now I mostly have dead plants and weeds growing around them and you know what? This is fine by me. I don't think it would take much for he builders to invest in some metal grate to cover the sewer drains, performing a double duty of keeping debris out and water in. I just think this is too much for our lovely builders to think about.

So I sit on the couch, with one sweet baby pressed against my side and another growing fast in my womb. And it makes me smile to think about a time, not too far from now, when I'll have an arm around each of my little peanuts and be blissfully happy.

12 Weeks

As of today I am twelve weeks pregnant. I was sitting at the dining room table last night, writing in my pregnancy journal and updating it, when I realized that I am now starting my 4th month of pregnancy- I am almost finished with the first trimester! It never ceases to amaze me how fast time goes by. I have been starting to feel better the last few days. I still have my moments when all I can do is lay on the couch and with it was 40 degrees outside- luckily Savannah is pretty self-sufficient these days and manages to entertain herself until I get my energy back. I don't remember feeling this tired last time around. People say, it is more exhausting when you are running around after a toddler all day, but I was taking care of Brynn during my first trimester last time around, so I was watching a toddler, 45 hours a week. But then at least I could go home and crawl into bed at the end of the day. I just hope I get some energy back- soon! I think the heat/rainy weather has me pretty glum these days, too. Today is one of the first days all week where the sun has actually come out.... which makes it too hot to actually go outside in the afternoons. Otherwise it is raining all day, which makes it even more impossible to go outside. I think I am ready for summer to be over.

Savannah turned 17 months on Wednesday. Another testament to how fast time flies. She is so funny these days. Her vocabulary is just exploding- it seems like she has something new to say each day. We have told her that there is a baby growing in my tummy, and every once in a while she has sudden bursts of affection for my whole stomach. She will lay on top of it and grab it up in a hug, saying, "Awww", then give it kisses and patting it. That is her repertoire these days- everything gets a hug, sugar and a pat-pat. Especially the animals. She loves to lavish all her attention on Peyton, Boone and Tebow. She also loves to play with the telephone. Of course, she has no interest in the old cell phones that no longer work- somehow she knows the difference. She has figure to take the keyguard off of Brad's phone, so she is constantly making phone calls. Luckily she has only ever managed to call people in our immediate family. The grandparents, of course, love these calls from their girl!

With football season fast approaching, we have decided to go ahead and start getting the nursery ready. I have decided how I want to paint it, now I just need to go ahead and pick up some paint chips and pick colors. We are going to use Savannah's crib in the nursery, so we need to go ahead and pick out a big girl bed for her. I know it is early, but every weekend form September 1st through January 7th are full of some kind of football, and I don't want to be painting in mid-late January. When Savannah was born we didn't have a chance to get the nursery put together before she was born, so it is something I really want to do this time around. I am so excited to get started and see how everything turns out!

I know I have been seriously slacking as far as pictures of everything are concerned.... I swear I will get some up, soon!!
